If you could create music with another musician (local, famous, dead/alive), who would it be and why?  Alison Balsom because has always been my inspiration. She also just seems like a neat person and she wears pretty recital dresses!
What is the one thing that instantly makes your day better?
Cats, specifically my cat Rosie. When I'm at UNI, I like to visit the kitties at the animal shelter when I am feeling down or stressed. The cats are very friendly and soft there. I recommend it!
What is your favorite random fact (NOT something about you)?
You can bite off fingers like carrots but our brains stop us from doing it
Why do you think it's important to teach the younger generation music?
I think it is important so that we can pass down knowledge. That is an obvious answer, however I think of it as keeping alive the information from well respected trumpet players/musicians in general. Ultimately it is up to us to pass down that information, which is why I strive to learn as much as I can from the people I study under
What is the most unexpected thing you have learned while studying music?
Personally, I learned about the importance of patience, hard work, discipline, mindset, respect, and many other concepts. Though I've learned a lot about music related things, I think the most important concepts I've learned were ones about growing as a person and musician. From freshman year to now, I've changed a lot because of my learning of these concepts. The biggest realization I've made is that you are the one in control of your future. No one is going to tell you what to do anymore. Your life is in your hands and it is up to you how you are going to shape your future. That being said, it is important to take advantage of all the resources around you and to do all you can to better yourself as a person, musician, and future educator. Do you want to spend your time at UNI just getting by or do you want to actually learn and grow? It is up to you now. It is a harsh realization but one I am very thankful for
